If there is one thing that bugs Kandarp “Ken” H. Vaishnav, it is seeing human energy wasted.

“Human energy is the biggest economic resource,” said Vaishnav, founder of VentureXcelerator Inc., a full-service business strategy-consulting firm with offices in Palmer and Walpole. When the economy slows down, the first thing businesses do is lay off employees. That wastes talent, Vaishnav believes. Instead, “I say let’s look at our business,” Vaishnav said Early in his business career, while working for the John S. Cheever Co. in Hingham, he learned he had a talent for correcting business management problems, Vaishnav said.

“Most things are fixable,” he said. Vaishnav is particularly interested in helping small businesses achieve success.

“Ninety percent of businesses are small businesses,” he said. “If they can be improved, the whole economy prospers.”

To be successful in business, he said, an entrepreneur has to know what the company’s core business is and what distinguishes it from other companies.

To disseminate his ideas to a wider audience, Vaishnav and Sanjeev Selvaraj coauthored a 77-page book, “How to Build a Successful Business,” published in 2001 by VentureXcelerator.

The book, Vaishnav said, is a comprehensive guide to building a successful business. It has chapters on self-evaluation, writing a business plan, obtaining funding, carrying out the plan, managing finances and similar topics.

In addition to operating Venturexcelerator, Vaishnav is chief operating and chief financial officer of CCSInet, an Internet service provider and technology solutions company in Palmer.

Selvaraj graduated from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester with a degree in mechanical engineering. He is employed at Parametric Technology Corp.

The book can be ordered online at www. Venturexcelerator.com, www.vxhome.com, www.ccsinet.com, or www.amazon.com.
