Senior
center purchases computer
By Joan Brickner Correspondent
WALES
— Through a grant from the Commonwealth’s Office of Elderly Affairs
and the hard work of Floyd League the senior center has bought a
computer.
The
council on aging, administrators of the senior center will use the
computer for the monthly newsletter, bookkeeping and other executive
functions. As a member of the council League, who currently does the
newsletter, initiated application for the grant
.
Earle
Plumley chairman for the council on aging says the computer has a
scanner. “Hopefully it will be a boon to our newsletter. We can put
more information into it easier,” he said.
The
newsletter currently reaches 120 seniors in Wa1es. Previously the
newsletter and mailing list were done on a word processor.
“There
are better and faster ways to do the newsletter,” Plumley said. He
also pointed out the grant process has been going on for more than, a
year. Since then the price of computers has gone down and they were able
to upgrade the system from what was originally planned.
Current
activities at the senior center include lunches served Monday, Wednesday
and Friday at noon, art classes Wednesday from 12:30-3:00 and the
outreach worker who is available to all seniors Monday, Wednesday and
Friday’ 1-3 p.m. at the center. The senior center also has a loan
program for equipment such as walkers and wheelchairs. Special functions
and trips are printed in the newsletter.
If you
are not receiving the newsletter or would like to sign up for lunch
please do 24 hours in advance
by calling the senior center at 245-9683.
